Am I Eligible?

The NDIS has specific eligibility criteria. Here's what you need to know.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

To access the NDIS, you generally need to meet all of the following criteria:

  • Age

    Be under 65 years of age when you first apply for the NDIS.

  • Residency

    Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Special Category Visa.

  • Location

    Live in an area where the NDIS is available (it is now available across all of Australia).

  • Disability

    Have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities.

What Counts as a Permanent Disability?

A disability is considered permanent if it is likely to be lifelong. This can include:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Intellectual disability
Physical disability
Acquired brain injury
Sensory impairments (vision/hearing)
Psychosocial disability (mental health)
Degenerative neurological conditions
Cerebral palsy and similar conditions
